The difficult task of preserving cultural heritage while at the same time giving it new life is being quietly achieved by people and organizations all around Greece, and three such initiatives were recognized by the European Commission and the Europa Nostra Pan-European Federation for Cultural Heritage during its annual awards ceremony this year.

Kastoria - "7 Most Endangered" - European heritage and financial experts made second visit .


On 5-7 November, a delegation of heritage and financial experts from Europa Nostra and the Council of the Europe Development Bank (CEB) made a second visit to the historic neighbourhoods of Dolcho and Apozari in Kastoria, Greece, listed among ‘The 7 Most Endangered’ heritage sites in Europe in 2014. Building on the findings of first mission held on 4-5 October and on the additional technical material provided by the Municipality of Kastoria, this second visit represented an important step forward towards the revitalisation of these historic quarters.

The Kastoria neighborhoods of Dolzo and Apozari, listed among The 7 Most Endangered monuments and sites in Europe in 2014, were visited on 4th and 5th October by a team of heritage and financial experts from Europa Nostra, the Council of the Europe Development Bank and ELLINIKI ETAIRIA - Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage.

Paths of Culture in Sikinos: at Elytis’ chapel, reading his poems… 22-24/8/2014


We have signposted 7 unique paths this year in Skinos, one of the most enchanting islands of the Cyclades. A three-day programme has been designed by ELLET and the Municipality of Sikinos, focusing on Panaghia Pantochara (All Joy) – the chapel built on the wish and vow of the Nobel Prize winning poet Odysseas Elytis – to aquaint visitors with the island in a new way.

A great celebration for Patmos!, 7/6/2014

Lights on Patmos, the island of the Apocalypse, was the result of the great celebration organised by ELLET and Europa Nostra, on Saturday, 7 June 2014 on the occasion of the completion of the 1st phase of the Paths of Culture and the Local Award Ceremony for the Conservation of the Patmos Windmills – Winner of an EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards).
